ISTE Advocacy for Education: Opportunities in Denver!


Advocacy in Education is so important..now more than ever. ISTE10 Denver has many opportunities to involve yourself for advocating for our customers....the KIDS!

The following is from Hilary Goldmann, ISTE’s Director of Government Affairs:

"Once again we have a dynamic line-up of advocacy activities at ISTE2010!! Thanks to all of you for your ideas, help, advice, support, guidance etc… Below is the line-up.

• ETAN Booth - Raffle prize is an interactive white board donated by SMART, Technologies. Michelle and Barack Obama will make a cardboard appearance again.

• Send a video letter to Congress – We will have flip cameras at the Advocacy Lounge and a script so attendees can send a video email to Congress.

• YouTube ISTE Advocacy Channel – We now have an ISTE Advocacy YouTube Channel! We will post video letters to Congress here and stream them at the Advocacy Lounge.

• Collecting success stories at the Advocacy Lounge Wiki


• Senators Bennet and Udall staff will visit ISTE 2010 for a tour of CO student showcases, exhibit hall and meeting with CO leaders.

• ABC’s of Advocacy – Sunday, 1-5, Hyatt Regency Centennial Ballroom. Thanks to Intel, Corp. and Apple Inc. for their generous support. We have room if you want to attend.

• Concurrent session, 6/28 11:00 CCC 301 – “The Obama Administration and the Future of Ed Tech”

Makerspace for Little or Nothing You don't have to spend thousands of dollars to start a Makerspace area. You don't have to have a designated room or rip out bookcases. You can even have a Makerspace on a cart! Makerspace Starter Kit Updated

Three years ago I shared my Makerspace Starter Kit with you or what I was buying to boost our Makerspace area using four empty Library study carrels that no longer held desktop Macs.  That post has consistently been one of the most viewed posts every week for years and years - with more than 83 THOUSAND views, gee whiz! (Crazy, right?) So, I thought maybe it was time to update it!*  Since then, I've had some major Makerspace successes and a couple dismal (and expensive) Makerspace failures!  So, here's the latest for ya'll with the good, the bad, and the bloody awful! My Edublog Nomiations 2011

To celebrate the #Eddies this year I thought I would do my nominating both on my professional blog and on our NEW! Daring School Library Edublog ! The EduBlogger award nomination process is a wonderful opportunity Pay it Forward by recognizing those in our PLN for their hard work and generosity. I wish I could name more than one on several of these categories! Gah! The Edublog awards has had a lot of buzz the last couple of years (both positive & hater) but I find the event & experience invigorating! I've been humbled & honored to be nominated a couple times (first by the amazing Shelly S Terrell! Thank you, Shelly!) and even came in second runner up once or twice!
