Animation ABC's - How IT works

Image
Amusing and informative (but snarky & slightly inappropriate) overview of how animation works from Cirkus of New Zealand. Thank goodness for new animation resources & sites like Go!Animate and Xtranormal that take all these steps out of the way for you! Sqworl Animation sites & resources for school use. Some for media/classroom/unit marketing and some to use with kids! Of course, none of those products above can get even close to the animation genius of the Gorillaz video Clint Eastwood . Too bad they won't let me embed it here...but if you click below...

This Food is Coyrighted!

Image
So my weekend thing (if not at the beach or otherwise engaged in play) is to clean out my DVR - Anthony Bourdain and No Reservations is a fave. Rock and Roll bad boy chef with a snarky potty mouth is to die for! I mean....c'mon...Tony = HOT! The foodie buddha said it best: " I have a soft spot for any television show that comes with an amended warning label. Moreover, if the show happens to espouse the intrinsic benefits of glutonistic hedonism, I’d say that show is a dream come true. Such is the case with No Reservations , that Travel channel icon of television programs. Hosted by none other than the heavily inked Tony Bourdain , No Reservations allows the viewer at least 60-minutes of food porn at its best . His language is crass, his vernacular is spectacular, and the entertainment level is high. Get on this and get on it now ." His recent show was about being Obsessed . And because i'm ADD and i watch TV with a laptop it led me to Google some of t...

ISTE Elections: Yes, I've Got My Running Shoes On!

Image
Isn't this a face and cartoon you can trust to represent you in the PK-12 for ISTE Board of Directors? I want to thank my good friend, mentor, and Maryland buddy Ms. Brenda Anderson for nominating me for a position on the ISTE Board. At first, I didn't know the etiquette for revealing the person who nominated you - whether it was a secret kinda thing (as in don't blame them! LOL) but then slept on it and realized how silly! ....so Thank YOU dear amazing Brenda for not only believing in me but taking the time and effort to encourage me to step up and try and make a difference. I also want to thank my good friend and mentor Joyce Valenza for supporting me in her award-winning recent Never Ending Search blog. She asked me to write up my goals and my vision for leadership within ISTE. I'm gonna repost that here: I was amazed and honored to be nominated for the board of directors of ISTE. I truly believe it's time for a teacher librarian, library media specialist...

SKJ for ALA in Second Life!

Image
I support Sara Kelly Johns for President of ALA. I've met her, talked to her, read her webpage, and I think she has what it takes to represent us Librarians vigorously and nationally. And its time we had a school-based librarian in charge of the ALA. It's been a few years (how many? don't know... Bueller ? Anyone !?) .....Seriously though, I really think she can close the gap between ALA-AASL and ISTE-SIGMS...she *wants* to work together! That's progress! Come hear her speak tonight! 8pm EST or 5pm SLT Get a FREE Tophat in-world at my factory & public house Red's Revenge in New Babbage Visit her official website: Vote SKJ for ALA! Quoting from a message from Lisa Perez to all members of Media Specialists SIG on ISTE Community! Make plans to join your colleagues on Tuesday, March 16th at 8pm ET/7pm CT/6pm MT/5pm PT for a very special event, “A Chat with Sara Kelly Johns” . Sara is a candidate in the election for ALA President and she will speak to librarian...

Shorpy, Urchins, & This Fabulous Century

Image
Funny how these interweb things happen. You do a google search for one thing and stumble upon another. Today I discovered Shorpy . "December 1910. " Shorpy Higginbotham , a 'greaser' on the tipple at Bessie Mine, of the Sloss-Sheffield Steel and Iron Co. in Alabama.  Said he was 14 years old, but it is doubtful. Carries two heavy pails of grease, and is often in danger of being run over by the coal cars." Photograph and caption by Lewis Wickes Hine." For some reason his face resonates with me. My Welsh ancestors came to America and were coal miners in Van Meter, Pennsylvania - site of the Darr Mine explosion of 1907 where 239 souls died. My gramma still talks about buying things at the "company store" and her father, my great-grandfather Williams, died of the black lung... This picture also makes me think of the Second Life New Babbage urchins (I'm at 1:09 in the blue dress) ...and how these kids I think would fit in right fine wit...

Reflecting on My Library Web Presence - It's Never Too Late to Start

Image
The recent TL Cafe Webinar on Web Presence got me to thinking about my slippery slope to a web presence of late. Early on in my tech career I chose to create an Electronic Portfolio because it seemed silly to print out paper colour copies of web pages I made for kids and teachers for lessons to put in a 3 ring binder with plastic page protectors. (and because there weren't any rules for it - since I was the first in my county and I could go my own way! Muuwhaaaaaa! ) Forget the java and the html! Created in 1997 with Netscape Composer and posted to Angelfire because my county didn't have a web server yet, my first portfolio was pretty raw - just a list of links really. It's now a quarterly updated iWeb site that has pages for my academic, professional development links. Fast forward 8 years and a lot of simple but functional hot link pages, web quests, directed Internet tasks, and a smugmug digital photo gallery later and I was inspired by a presentation by Francey Lib...
